# Backuply — Full Documentation for AI Systems > Backuply is continuous backup and restore for ecommerce stores on BigCommerce and Ecwid. It versions store objects as they change, keeps a searchable Vault history, and restores selected items through the platform API — not a downloadable zip of the whole store. Canonical site: http://localhost:10701/ Short index: http://localhost:10701/llms.txt Documentation: http://localhost:10701/documentation Contact: support@backuply.app --- ## 1. Product overview Backuply is built for merchants who need undo after catalog edits, CSV imports, theme publishes, or accidental deletes. Each store object (product, category, page, customer, etc.) is an item with its own version timeline. After install, the first full snapshot starts automatically. Webhooks enqueue capture jobs when objects change. A nightly reconcile lists live IDs versus stored IDs to catch deletes and silent edits the platform never webhooked. Merchants can run Backup Now before risky changes or restores. ### What Backuply does - Continuous versioned backup of store objects (not a single nightly zip) - Merchant-triggered Backup Now full crawl with optional named restore points (max 7) - Vault All Items search, filters, and View Versions compare/restore - Advanced Restore for Automated resource types as of a date/time - BigCommerce and Ecwid embedded apps with platform-native billing ### What Backuply is not - Not a whole-store zip download or export archive - Not self-serve order restore in V1 (orders are backup-only / visible in Vault) - Not a replacement for your own CSV import workflow — it versions what the APIs can write back ### How it works 1. Install the Backuply app from the BigCommerce App Marketplace or Ecwid App Market 2. OAuth connect; billing registers; webhooks register; first full snapshot starts 3. Day-to-day edits create new versions via webhooks (hash-skip if unchanged) 4. Nightly reconcile catches gaps; merchants run Backup Now before risky operations 5. Restore via View Versions (single item), Advanced Restore (Automated category), named restore point, or By Request (support) --- ## 2. Vault & capture ### Vault (home screen) - Last backup time, next nightly backup, Backup Now button, named restore points n/7 - Tabs: All Items, Advanced Restore, restore points (and Jobs on in-app UI) - Search by product title, SKU, customer name/email, order number, page title - Filters: content type, Showing (Active / Deleted / both), optional date range - Hover a row → View Versions ### Webhooks Platform change events enqueue a job. Backuply GETs the live object, hashes it, and stores a version only if the hash changed. During an in-progress Backup Now crawl, webhook jobs may be delayed (NAK/retry) so the crawl stays consistent. ### Nightly reconcile Lists live object IDs versus stored IDs to catch deletes and inline edits BigCommerce/Ecwid never webhooked (e.g. some thumbnail changes, autosave product edits). ### Backup Now - Full crawl of the live store now; records new, changed, and deleted items - Unchanged items are hash-skipped; previous versions remain - One crawl at a time per store; restore blocked while crawl runs - Optional: Keep as restore point + label (max 7 pins per store) - Install crawl does not consume a pin slot Use Backup Now: - Before CSV import, bulk price edit, theme publish, or app that rewrites catalog - Before any restore (captures current live state including recent mistakes) - After edits you are not sure webhooks captured ### Named restore points - Pin a completed Backup Now crawl with a label - Hard cap of 7 complete or running pins per store - Retention purge does not delete pinned versions - Trial retention is 7 days — pin pre-import crawls if you need them to outlive trial history --- ## 3. Restore model Restore is three paths. There is no single backup file to download. 1. **Single item** — All Items → View Versions → Restore to this version (immediate for restorable types) 2. **Automated category** — Advanced Restore: pick types, set date/time, confirm (self-serve) 3. **By Request** — All Item Types, customers, orders, and similar types → support request (up to 7 days) Advanced Restore rules: - WILL restore deleted items and update items modified since the selected date - WILL NOT delete live items created after that date - WILL NOT overwrite items that did not change Before restore: run Backup Now if the last crawl is stale (typically >15 minutes). Gaps between version dates on an item mean the item did not change on those days — not lost history. --- ## 4. BigCommerce coverage (V1) ### Automated Advanced Restore (self-serve) - Products - Categories - Option Sets - Brands - Pages - Blog Posts ### By Request (support, up to 7 days) - All Item Types - Customers - Gift Certificates - Orders - Redirects ### Restore in V1 (View Versions + Automated) - Products: details, variants, SKUs, images (URL metadata), videos-as-links, bulk prices, custom fields - V3 products: modifiers + complex rules - V2 products: option sets + options (not V2 option-set complex rules — backup-only) - Categories and brands (including ingested images) - Reviews, customers + addresses (no payment instruments), price lists - Pages, blog posts, 301 redirects, gift certificates (recreate via API) - Metafields readable via API, Stencil theme zip (download + upload/activate) ### Backup-only in V1 - Orders (status, refunds, messages as stored JSON) - V2 option-set complex rules (BigCommerce API cannot restore) ### Not backed up / not restored - Product digital download files - Blueprint themes, Page Builder widgets, scripts - Shipping methods, checkout settings, store settings as restore targets - Stored payment instruments - Other apps' private data except metafields covered by write_all scope ### BigCommerce notes - Catalog has V2/V3 dual model; capture and restore branch per product on option_set_id - Multi-storefront badge may appear; V1 backup/restore runs at store level (no channel picker) - Stencil theme restore: zip download/upload; Page Builder widgets inside control panel are not in zip --- ## 5. Ecwid coverage (V1) Same Vault UX as BigCommerce: Backup Now, All Items, View Versions, Advanced Restore, named restore points. ### Restore in V1 - Products, categories, product types, combinations, images, coupons - Customers (no payment instruments) ### Backup-only in V1 - Reviews (Ecwid has no create-review API) - Orders (no self-serve order restore) ### Not restore targets in V1 - Instant Site pages, tiles, and themes - Store profile is snapshot-only Ecwid webhooks carry IDs only; Backuply always GETs the live object before storing a version. --- ## 6. Retention, billing & plans - Every plan includes a 7-day free trial - Trial retention: 7 days of version history - Paid retention: 365 days - Plans priced by product count (platform app billing) - Named restore points (max 7) are not purged with retention - Backup Now included on trial and paid --- ## 7. Positioning vs alternatives ### vs native CSV export CSV export is a point-in-time slice for spreadsheets or re-import. It is not undo. Backuply versions individual items and restores through the API. ### vs Rewind-class backup Backuply targets the same Vault product class: continuous item versions, Backup Now, View Versions, Advanced Restore. Separate product, apps, and billing. Backuply ships Ecwid; Rewind does not. Orders are backup-only self-serve in V1. Pricing: Backuply published monthly plans start at $9/mo by product count (yearly ~20% lower than monthly × 12); Rewind from $45/mo by order volume. See /compare/backuply-vs-rewind. --- ## 8.
