BigCommerce App
The Backuply BigCommerce app embeds in your control panel. After install, the first full snapshot starts automatically. Use the Vault to search items, compare versions, run Backup Now, and restore.
Install the app
From BigCommerce App Marketplace
- In your BigCommerce admin, go to Apps → Marketplace.
- Search for Backuply.
- Click Install and approve the requested OAuth scopes.
- Open the app from Apps → My Apps.
On first launch, Backuply registers billing, registers webhooks, and starts a full snapshot. This usually takes a few minutes depending on catalog size. You do not need an extra connect click.
Vault
The Vault is the home screen: last backup time, next nightly backup, Backup Now,
and named restore points n/7. Tabs: All Items, Advanced Restore,
and restore points.
- Search Vault — product title, SKU, customer name/email, order number, page title.
- Filters — content type, Showing (Active / Deleted / both), optional date range.
- Hover a row — View Versions.
If the store has more than one storefront channel, a Multi-storefront badge appears. V1 backup and restore still run at store level (shared catalog / default content). There is no channel picker.
Backup Now
Backup Now crawls the live store now, compares to the last crawl, and records new, changed, and deleted items. Previous versions stay. Unchanged items are hash-skipped.
Use it:
- Before a CSV import, bulk price edit, theme publish, or an app that rewrites catalog.
- Before a restore, so the current live state (including the mistake) is captured.
- After a change you are not sure webhooks captured. BigCommerce does not webhook every inline edit.
Button states:
- Backup Now — idle; a crawl can start.
- Backup in progress — a full snapshot is already running. Click is a no-op.
- Upgrade to Backup Now — no active trial or paid entitlement.
One crawl at a time per store. If a restore is running, Backup Now returns an error until it finishes. A second Backup Now while one is running does not queue another crawl.
Named restore points
After Backup Now, optional checkbox: Keep as restore point plus a label (default: timestamp). Hard cap of 7 complete or running pins per store.
- At 7 pins, Backup Now still runs; the pin checkbox is disabled until you delete one.
- A failed crawl does not keep a pin.
- Retention purge does not delete pinned versions.
- The install crawl does not consume a pin slot.
Trial retention is 7 days, so pin a crawl before a risky change if you need that point to outlive trial history.
View Versions
Open an item from All Items. Toggle SUMMARY / SOURCE CODE. Left pane is live. Right pane is the selected version. Use the version dropdown (each date is a capture of that item).
Restore to this version starts immediately for restorable types. Live items are updated in place. Deleted items are recreated. Orders are visible and comparable but restore is disabled in V1.
Gaps between version dates mean the item did not change — not that a day was lost.
Advanced Restore
Restore a resource type as of a date and time. Pick types, set date/time, confirm, then Restore Items.
Automated (self-serve)
- Products
- Categories
- Option Sets
- Brands
- Pages
- Blog Posts
By Request (support, up to 7 days)
- All Item Types
- Customers
- Gift Certificates
- Orders
- Redirects
This process will restore deleted items and update items modified since the selected date. It will not delete items created after that date, and it will not overwrite unchanged items. Product restore sets inventory as it was at that time and may also restore related brands, categories, option sets, and/or price lists.
What we back up
Restore in V1
- Products (details, variants, SKUs, images, videos-as-links, bulk prices, custom fields). V3: modifiers + complex rules. V2: option sets + options.
- Categories and brands (including images we have ingested).
- Reviews, customers + addresses (no payment instruments), price lists.
- Pages, blog posts, 301 redirects, gift certificates (recreate via API; API does not email the recipient).
- Metafields we can read, Stencil theme zip (download + upload/activate).
Backup-only in V1
- Orders (status, refunds, messages as stored JSON). No self-serve order restore.
- V2 option-set complex rules (API cannot restore).
Not backed up / not restored
- Product digital download files, Blueprint themes, Page Builder widgets, scripts.
- Shipping methods, checkout settings, store settings as a restore target.
- Stored payment instruments. Other apps’ private data except metafields covered by
write_all.
